On 10 July 2024, Dakar was the scene of an important event with the inauguration of the Chamber of Commerce and Investment for Africa, Russia and Eurasia (CCI for Africa Russia & Eurasia). The ceremony, which took place in the capital of Senegal, was attended by the heads of diplomatic missions of African and Eurasian countries accredited in Senegal. The ceremonial event was chaired by H.E.M Yassine Fall, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Senegal, and H.E.M Mikhail Bogdanov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for the Middle East and African Countries.
This initiative comes at a time when Africa, Russia and the countries of Eurasia are seeking to strengthen their economic and trade links. The CCI for Africa Russia & Eurasia aims to facilitate trade and investment between these regions, particularly in the agriculture, energy, infrastructure and technology sectors. By opening this Chamber of Commerce in Dakar, Senegal is positioning itself as an interregional center for economic relations.
In his inaugural speech, Yassine Fall, Senegal's Minister of Foreign Affairs, stressed the importance of this new structure for economic development and the diversification of international partnerships. He emphasised Africa's desire to strengthen its trade relations with Russia and the countries of Eurasia, while creating a framework conducive to ambitious joint projects.
Mikhail Bogdanov, for his part, expressed Russia's desire to strengthen its trade with African and Eurasian nations. He spoke of the geopolitical challenges facing the world, stressing the need to diversify trade relations beyond traditional channels. For him, this chamber of commerce represents a unique opportunity to build solid bridges between Africa and Eurasia, while supporting reciprocal investment projects.The ceremony was an opportunity for opinion leaders, diplomats and representatives of the private sector to discuss opportunities for cooperation in the fields of infrastructure construction, renewable energy and the digitisation of African economies.
The event attracted the attention of the business community and political decision-makers in the three regions. The inauguration of the CCI for Africa Russia & Eurasia in Dakar is seen as an important step towards building more ambitious economic and industrial partnerships to meet the growing needs of the African and Eurasian economies.
